History of the WSDS
The WSDS was formed over
the summer of 2000, when a local dancer decided that with
all the interest in the area, Wichita needed an organized
Society to bring everyone, and everything swing, together.
The first WSDS Swingin'
Sundays Dance was held on Sunday July 15th, and we've been
growing ever since! We do everything from Lessons, to
exhibitions, to hosting live bands and dances in various
places throughout the town.
What is the Lindy Hop?
The Lindy Hop is the original Swing dance born in the
late 1920's at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York. It
can be wild and fast paced, or slow and sexy...just like
the music it's danced to! It has since spawned many
different styles, as well as many different dances.
Go to SavoyStyle.com for an
excellent history of the dance, its inventors, and the era
it was born in.
